Minnesota state university, Mankato - social work students

Dear Social Work Student,
In 2003, I finished my BSSW from Minnesota State University, Mankato, and began my career as a school social worker in the Twin Cities. Over the course of the next 15 years I would find myself transitioning my work from education to healthcare, and then from direct client care to administration. I gained experience as a supervisor and eventually earned my MBA. Through it all, I discovered that my training in social work, and the lessons learned from my professors and colleagues at MSUM (both inside and outside the classroom) would prove most valuable. I had realized that while one can learn the technical skills of management, augmented by the use of tools and software, it was far more difficult to teach the compassion and empathy that is modeled daily by social workers and those in helping professions.
I am fortunate to have been surrounded by amazing people, and have been provided opportunities to leverage my strengths and passion in my work each day. In 2012, I helped launch the Leadership Development Program within PrairieCare, which eventually led to the creation of the book Leading with the Head and Heart. It is both an honor and a privilege to share my experiences and values with others - and I hope that there are some lessons within the pages of this book that you find helpful. I was once told that it is kind to share the wisdom that one acquires with others. This book is a curation of knowledge and wisdom that I have learned from so many others, that is delivered in a succinct and practical format.
All proceeds from the sale of Leading with the Head and Heart benefit the PrairieCare Child & Family Fund. As a proud graduate of MSUM, I want to make this book available to all Social Work students, and encourage you to consider a gift to the PrairieCare Child & Family Fund, which you can do by clicking on this link here.
Thank you!
Todd
